New world record for 8-seater chairlifts

Oliver Kern completes 22 lifts in a single day

On 17 March 2026, an exceptional ski day with fresh snowfall and state-of-the-art lift infrastructure – including facilities in SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental – produced a new world record: Oliver Kern used 22 different 8-seater chairlifts in just one day.

Record figures at a glance

  • Total distance: 58.5 km
  • Vertical metres covered by lifts: 16,359 m
  • 8-seater chairlifts: 22
  • Total number of lifts used: 40

SkiWelt as part of the route

The route began in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in Salzburger Land, continued via the Steinplatte region in Tyrol, and then on into SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental. Here, Oliver Kern rode several 8-seater chairlifts back to back. Despite the tight schedule, there was still time for a quick lunch stop at a mountain hut.

The tour then continued into the neighbouring ski area of KitzSki. Thanks to the SuperSkiCard, valid across all participating ski regions, transitions between resorts were quick and seamless.

At 15:46, Oliver Kern reached his 22nd 8-seater chairlift, officially setting the new world record.

Modern lift technology enables record-breaking performance

8-seater chairlifts are among the most advanced uphill transport systems in alpine skiing. They can carry up to 4,500 skiers per hour, and are equipped with weather protection bubbles, heated seats, and comfortable loading and unloading areas.

As major ski resorts in Tyrol and Salzburg today feature an impressive density of high-capacity chairlifts, it is possible – with the right planning – to ride a very large number of them in a single day,” explains Oliver Kern.
